GenITC - Drive Your Interfaces!

Interoperability is the key to network-centric warfare mission success.

Seamless integration and interoperability of legacy, prototype, stovepipe, and COTS systems is fundamental to warfighter dominance in the operational theater—whether that theater is urban, littoral, regional, on the far side of the world or the homeland.

Interfaces are the Red Zones of system integration, where interoperability is won or lost.

  • Miscommunication and misunderstandings within a system of systems are not acceptable.
  • Interfaces are the first line of defense against corrupt input.
  • The only way to drive a system and its components is to drive its interfaces.

What has it taken to drive the messaging interfaces of a network-centric system?

  • Special-purpose test sets (more stovepipe systems!)
  • Scripting languages and/or test sets from a variety of vendors, for each piece of the system, each with its own unique flavor
  • In-house developed test sets and simulators
  • Specially instrumented test versions of deliverable components (which either are not the versions that are going to be deployed, or are not going to be used in the field in the same mode in which they were tested!)

Or…

GenITC, Quadrus Corporation’s Generic Interface Test Computer.

GenITC is the Swiss army knife of Integration and Interface test tools, built from the ground up to modify and/or inject any kind of message into any system’s communication interfaces. GenITC generates:

  • Valid messages conveying nominal commands and statuses
  • Valid messages conveying off-nominal commands and statuses (including seriously off-nominal messages, such as catastrophic failure)
  • Internally inconsistent messages, e.g. VMF messages that violate conditions
  • Corrupted, unrecognizable messages

GenITC is available with fully functional fixed-layout, JREAP, & VMF message parsers.

GenITC logs, monitors, modifies, delays, injects, and deletes system communications as directed by a controlling scenario, providing a wealth of test and integration possibilities:

  • Modifying individual message fields as they pass through the network—with the ability to recognize specific message content and select specific ones to mangle
  • Injecting message(s) containing any desired content: nominal, off-nominal, or invalid
  • Delaying and deleting messages
  • Duplicating messages, with or without transmission delays
  • “Interface patching” to convert messages from one system into those for another
  • Simple logging

GenITC communicates with your systems using your protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, Variable Message Format (VMF), JREAP, NTDS, Mil-Std-1553.

GenITC drives your systems using your message protocols, e.g.: TADIL-J, VMF K11, BI-2, any message-based proprietary, ad hoc, or open standard.

Whether you need interface emulation, message recording and analysis, simulated message traffic, sim-over-live message injection or real-time on the fly message manipulation in a working system, GenITC can provide that capability. DICE can provide the same capabilities for multiple simultaneous interfaces. Either way, you can drive your system and test it in ways that would otherwise be impossible without extensive coding of drivers and instrumentation of the code under test.
